Martin Howard has been collecting antique typewriters since 1988. Over the years he has put together a collection of typewriters dating from the 1880s to the early 1900s. This online collection contains many rare and historically important machines plus a fine array of decorated ribbon tins, mechanical devices, advertising and letterheads from the period.

ReplyDeleteThere is a remarkable collective experience that we have towards typing and a strong nostalgia for the typewriter, as a physical and emotional symbol of writing.
I have been collecting 19th century typewriters for 20 years now (1880s & 1890s) and have been enthralled with them the whole way.
There was an incredible variety of ingeniously designed typewriters from the 1880s & 1890s, with over 300 models coming forth from many industrialized countries by 1905.
