Cardboard Sculptures by David Sleeth

Artist David Sleeth creates impressive sculptures using sheets of cardboard that have been glued together and sanded down to intricately layered organic forms. His sculptures reclaim the organic, yet mechanically produced, material as something natural. David says of his work, "I hope that by elevating a culturally or structurally familiar object to a state of uselessness I can elevate it’s aesthetic significance. I want to create work that alludes to the beautiful qualities I recognize in historical objects without replicating them."

  1. Polarized lenses (made from Polaroid or a similar material) to reduce glare caused by light reflected from polarizing surfaces such as water (see Brewster's angle for how this works) as well as by polarized diffuse sky radiation (skylight).

  2. Impressive! Cardboard sculptures are truly incredible, that's why I teach my preschool students to express their imaginations by making things with cardboard. Some would draw on it, while the others would shape it into objects. Whatever they're doing, it becomes an outlet of their imaginations. This will be an inspiration to them!
