Boat: A Monumental Installation Constructed from Rice Paper

Presented last month at Art13 London London by Chinese abstract artist Zhu Jinshi, "Boat" is an impressive installation composed of bamboo, cotton thread and 8,000 sheets of rice paper. The 12 metre-long structure was assembled over a three-day period by a crew of workers from Hong Kong who layered the sheets of rice paper onto the bamboo poles. Speaking about the project Zhu Jinshi said, “Whereas time only moves forward, the Boat can be sailed in any direction. The Boat’s cultural resonance is constructed of time itself, continuously ebbing and flowing through our imagination.”
