Crystal: A Sculptural Portrait Constructed from Used CDs

For his latest project titled "Crystal", Toronto-based artist Jim Hake created a beautiful sculptural portrait constructed from upcycled CDs. Influenced by the the forgotten musical idols of the ‘60s this first piece in a series is based on a conglomeration of features and hairstyles from the band The Crystals. As Jim explains to the Weld Art Collective: "In terms of the portraiture, I wanted it to be more about the glorification of that particular moment and also taking the idea of the ‘60s female, black doo-wop singer and portraying her in a classical pose in a very positive and glorified way" Jim's new work will be on display at the Lonsdale Gallery in Toronto through May 12th.
