Artist Transforms Vintage Suitcases into Delicate Nest Colonies

Using shredded lining and cardboard collected from old luggage, New Jersey-based artist Robert Lach creates delicate nest sculptures that are housed within the suitcase's shell. Lach's work work is based on the concept of “home” inspired by the architecture and imitation of birds. "I have a deep and spiritual connection to birds." he says, "Growing up not feeling rooted, I found comfort in the natural beauty that nature provided. Ingrained moments of bird observation connect me to the surrounding habitat of these mystical creatures. Building nests is a ritual expression of remembrance. The residue of being uprooted lives on."
