Photographic Portraits of People Wearing Brightly Colored Balaclavas in Support of Pussy Riot

These portraits were shot by professional freelance photographer Joshua Yospyn across the street from the Russian Embassy in Washington, D.C. on August 16th, during Amnesty International’s second annual Pussy Riot protest and solidarity concert. Concert-goers wore Pussy Riot's trademark balaclavas in support of the imprisoned members of the Russian punk band. In the year after Pussy Riot's conviction and sentencing, the Russian government has clamped down even harder on free expression and assembly. Administrative and legal changes have curtailed almost all forms of public protest.
