An Abandoned Shack in The Desert is Transformed into a Reflective Light Installation

For his most recent project titled "Lucid Stead", Californian artist Phillip K. Smith III, transformed a 70-year-old abandoned shack in the middle of the California High Desert into a beautiful architectural intervention composed of mirror, LED lighting and custom built electronic equipment. In daylight the mirrors between the aged wood slats reflect and refract the surrounding terrain like a mirage. As the sun sets geometric color fields emerge until they illuminate the desolate darkness. The artist explains, “This project is about tapping into the desert, into the pace of change, and is about responding to the quiet of the place. And ultimately, in that quite, the project begins to unfold.”
