Complex Sculptures Made from Discarded Venetian Blinds by James Carl
Toronto-based artist James Carl constructs large-scale, amorphous sculptures by intricately weaving brightly coloured venetian blinds. Woven in the manner of baskets, these complex works pay homage not only to the work of early modern sculptors like Brancusi and Moore, but also to the history of craft and the hand made. Carl explains where his idea for the sculptures came from, "I found a venetian blind in the garbage," he said "It was just one of those moments. I couldn't leave it there."
