Fragile Skeletal Sculptures Crafted from Driftwood Found on Beaches

Artist Giovanni Longo crafts stunning skeletal sculptures out of driftwood and other pieces of found wood he scavenges from Italian beaches. Creating a bond between the osseous and the ligneous elements, the sculptures represent symbolic skeletons weakened by time. Longo talks about what inspired the project, "I came across the driftwood quite casually, I was studying the process of human ageing at that time; As I was walking along the beach one day, I noticed some pieces of woods gently lied down on the sand, they were so consumed by the time and sea; I immediately realized that I had found a material of value, natural and sincere, fearlessly showing its own past."
