Woven Paper Sculptures by Joell Baxter

Brooklyn-based sculptor/printmaker Joell Baxter works chromatically with papers she has screenprinted on both sides, creating three-dimensional woven pillow forms that are set onto the floor. The weave itself relates directly to the canvas of a painting, and she incorporates illusionistic painting techniques, such as greying down the colors in shadow areas to create the illusion of raking light. Joell says of her work, “I am attracted to the idea of building a structure from the simplest parts possible, using the simplest process possible.”
