Palestinian Artist Abdulrahman Katanan Creates Sculptures Out of Materials from Refugee Camps
Depicting the experiences of refugees living in dire situation in Palestinian refugee camps, artist Abdulrahman Katanani creates sculptures out of scrap materials and day-to-day objects from those refugee camps. Using gorrugated tin roofing, barbed wire, and chain link fence, Katanani recreates the experiences he personally lived through, but also the memories of his community and their everlasting longing for their homeland. Katanani says of his work, "When I started to use sheets of tin, people remembered that they live with this material. The saddest thing is that the people in the camps, are also like my materials, forgotten."
