A World Globe Made Out of Thousands of Individually Painted Matchsticks

Sculptor Andy Yoder spent two years building this amazing world globe out of thousands of individually-painted matchsticks. One by one, Yoder attached the hand-painted matches with wood glue to a frame constructed out of a mix of foam and cardboard inside a plywood skeleton. His son, reddit user yoderaustin recently posted these beautiful images of the nearly completed sculpture explaining that as a precaution Yoder doused the whole thing in flame retardant. The piece will be exhibited by Winkleman Gallery at this year’s PULSE New York Contemporary Art Fair, May 8–11
