Giant Cardboard Anchor Installation by Sophie Cardin

As part of this year’s edition of the Art Souterrain Festival in Montreal, Canada, French born artist Sophie Cardin created a giant cardboard anchor to be showcased in the Guy Favreau complex, opposite the offices of the administrations of the Government of Canada immigration. The monumental installation, which is spread throughout three different locations of the festival, references the contradiction between an anchor’s heavy weight and this anchor’s light and fragile cardboard composition. Speaking about the project Cardin said, "This piece expresses how this is felt as a necessity by immigrating people, while also exploring the instability and the transitory conditions they experience."
