Plastic World: A Planet Built Entirely from Plastic Debris Washed Up on Beaches

For their collaborative project titled "Plastic World", Portuguese artists Carole Purnelle and Maya Nuno used marine plastic debris they had been collecting for over ten years to create a large spherical planet complete with oceans and continents. The sculpture reflects the plastic universe we live in and where we are surrounded by unnecessary plastics produced to be consumed quickly and thus being rapidly obsolete and carelessly discarded. The structure was shown at the 2013 Sculpture by the Sea, Bondi exhibition in Australia.
