Wave: A Large Sculpture Made from Thousands of Blonde Barbie Dolls

"Wave" is a large-scale installation conceived by artist Annette Thas for this year's Sculpture by the Sea event at Cottesloe beach in Perth, Australia. The extraordinary sculpture was created by tying thousands of blonde Barbie dolls to an aluminium frame in the shape of a giant wave, under which beachgoers were able to catch some shade. "The Barbies are used to convey messages" Thas says, "That's why I decided to use blonde Barbie dolls. The sculpture is about genetic modification and the tyranny of the ideal image of beauty".
