Frozen Trees: An Illuminated Forest Made Out of Reusable IKEA Plastic Bag Dispensers

On Sunday November 30th East Village [London] hosted its first ever festive light switch-on. With the East Village community in attendance, the event saw the illumination of a forest of 14 trees made out of 1,296 reusable and recyclable IKEA plastic bag dispensers. Designed by Portuguese studio LIKEarchitects, "Frozen Trees" is temporary Christmas light display that creates an illuminated, frozen and fractal landscape that affects and alters the paths of pedestrians. The cylindrical structures serve as self-sufficient streetlights, which are placed throughout the space, creating a new contextual landscape and inviting visitors to discover new spatial experiences.
