Call Center: A Giant Gun Sculpture Made from Hundreds of Vintage Rotary Telephones

Portuguese artist Joana Vasconcelos creates sculptures and installations that explore consumer culture, collective identity, and our assumptions about what constitutes art. Her latest project titled "Call Center", is a large sculpture, reminiscent of a Beretta handgun, made from hundreds of vintage rotary phones. The piece first made its appearance last year during the Filipe Faísca Spring-Summer 2015 fashion show in Pátio da Galé, Lisbon and was the centerpiece of the catwalk, functioning as an interactive sound sculpture that played specially-composed music titled Call Center: Electroacustic Symphony for 168 Telephones by Jonas Runa.
