Artist Creates an Impressive Large Scale Portrait Made from Thousands of Tea Bags

Known as the artist who "loves to paint, but not with a paintbrush", Red Hong Yi (aka Red), uses everyday ordinary materials to create art. For her most recent project, the artist was commissioned to create a piece to display at the World Economic Forum that would reflect the culture of her home country of Malaysia. Using 20,000 tea bags stained in different shades of brown, she created a portrait of a "Teh Tarik Man" preparing a drink. "I was inspired by Teh Tarik (meaning pulled tea) - a national drink that's served in local cafes." she explains, "I wanted to create an everyday Malaysian scene that reminds me of home."
