Photographs of Silk Flower Arrangements Reflected through Exploding Mirrors

"On Reflection" is a series of photographs by London-based artist Ori Gersht, that captures the reflection of flower arrangements on exploding mirrors, documenting the blast of reflective shards. Gersht begins by recreating with silk flowers an exact replica of Brueghel’s floral paintings, and then places them in front of a tempered glass mirror. He then aims two separate cameras at the mirrors while sending an electrical charge that causes the glass to explode. By its nature, the project questions the relationship between destruction and creation, “I’m interested in those oppositions of attraction and repulsion and how the moment of destruction in the exploding mirrors becomes for me the moment of creation.” Gersht explains.
