Sony World Photography Winner Builds An Entire City from Bricks In His Studio

"The Minimal City" is an outstanding still-life photography series by Italian multidisciplinary artist Matteo Mezzadri, that explores architectural density and the spatial components of the modern metropolis. Starting from the basic element of construction, the brick, Mezzadri built an entire model city in his studio and then photographed the buildings in primarily static, symmetrical compositions. The project for which Mezzadri won a Sony World Photography Award, is the result of meticulous, almost obsessive handwork, capturing the space in which the majority of people live, an urban space recognizable in its essential structures.
