Miniature Dioramas Built Inside Vintage Ring Boxes by Artist Talwst
Toronto-based artist, TALWST, creates beautiful miniature dioramas, housed in reclaimed ring boxes featuring landscapes inspired by current events. From the deaths of Michael Brown and Eric Garner in the US, to the missing students in Mexico, TALWST inserts marginalized narratives from contemporary culture into the Western Art canon, creating prototypes for a responsive, diversified and inclusive history. "The work's small scale allows me the opportunity for a very particular kind of meditation." He says, "The overarching theme is related to time and space; to my sense of the vastness and the fragility of the world which I inhabit; and my fleeting memories of this world."
